Screen printing is nearly 2,000 years old and is the most common method of printing t-shirts. The Chinese began over 2,000 years ago using silkscreening to stencil the emperor’s belongings.
Today we use the same method to print t-shirts and other related garments are printed in the same way. This process of printmaking forces ink thru a fine mesh or “silk” screen onto the printing surface. Once, printed, the ink is then cured with heat. When done properly, this method creates the most durable and highest quality print available on textile surfaces.
Most logos come to us as raster images that need to be converted to vector files. We have one of the most experienced color separators on the west coast with over 25 years of experience.
When we look at the color range of logos and the type and color of shirt that we are printing, then we decide if we are going to use spot colors, index colors, four color process, simulated process, special puff or nylo-bond additives, reducers to create changes in opacity and durability for that distressed look.
We have an ink matching system to match the thread color to print color to Pantone colors, all universally. That is no small thing; color matching is both art and science. We’ve invested tens of thousands of dollars into the best Inks and Embroidery threads so that the final product is near perfect and the durability and quality are unmatched.
To begin with, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve you.
First, decide what mode of communication works best for you. Come into the shop, call over the phone, or email. Typically email and phone are the most efficient methods of communication.
Second, let’s talk. Describe your project and timeline. Please email your artwork to MerlinEmb@gmail.com or text it over to 619.884.9712 so we can see the scope of the artwork and talk with you about converting your artwork into an embroidery design or a t-shirt printing design.
Third, We’ll break out and describe all the costs that go into your project for custom embroidery or t-shirt printing; we offer non-wearable promotional items that we may be able to use the same designs on.
Fourth, once we summarize the costs, we’ll ask for a deposit of 50% upfront with the balance of payment due upon completion of the order. (We take Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express as well as Personal and Business checks.
We’ll prepare the artwork for your approval and get your garments ordered up. For custom embroidery and t-shirt printing, we’ll complete your order within 7 – 10 business days. When your order is shipped, you will receive an email with tracking information and anticipated shipping delivery date.
Regarding your logo,
If your logo is already prepared in a vector format, we ask that you send both raster files (Jpeg, Tiff, PNG, or BMP file types) as well as the vector files (just in case of any missing text or colors, or design path errors in the vector file – a surprisingly common error).
If you have a rough sketch or elements you want to include in your design, put them together in an email and send them over, we’ll talk about the details of your design. It’s the details that make for a great experience and final product. It’s our goal that you be so overjoyed with the final product, whether custom embroidery or printed t-shirts, that you just naturally and gladly tell your family and friends, as well as other business associates whom you think need our help. That’s how we grow the business by word of mouth and referral. We love what we do and cannot wait to demonstrate that to you.
Lastly, we love a positive review, whether on Yelp or Google. Supposing you love your experience and the final product we produce for you, whether wearable or non-wearable promotional items that showcase your brand, group, or team, I would ask you a personal favor if you would write a review. Positive reviews do a world of good for a business whose primary goal is to help other nice people just as cool as you.
We have a low minimum order for 48 printed t-shirts. It does not matter if you need 48 or tens of thousands of shirts, fleece, hoodies, and more, the process is still the same. So that means we print for businesses, schools, and local schools and universities teams and clubs. We print shirts for all of our USA military branches, Police and Fire. We support our beloved Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard. We took great pride in serving others and remained open to serve the essential workers during the past two years. Any way we can help, let us know. We will also ship directly to you as needed, or you can swing by and pick up in the after-hours locker, or come in person, shake hands and meet the crew.
We have grown to love www.merlinembroidery.net, with its bright colors, the introduction video, and quick access to both embroidery samples, screen printing examples and a 3600 piece clothing catalog that has an amazing range of garment types. If you email your logo to merlinemb@gmail.com and simply say what size logo you want and what type of garment it’s going on, the embroidery logo is ready for preview the next day. They have over 52,000 logos on file from 30 years of work to know what they are doing and what looks good. Don’t forget to put a call-back number on the email so they can call for questions. Often, they will set up a hat logo and a polo logo for the price of one logo, a two-for-one deal.
The logo setup fee for left chest or ball cap is usually $40. You can supply your own hats or polo shirts or jackets, or you can order from merlin embroidery’s online clothing catalog. Embroidery for the left chest or hat logos are $12-15 each. We also specialize in full back embroidery for jackets and letterman jackets up to 15 inches tall and 15 inches wide; those are more custom and are quoted per design. You can email your design to MerlinEmb@gmail.com to determine the exact pricing and tell us your specific needs. Email your logo today; you could have a completed embroidery project done the same week, depending on what you need.
We use the latest high-speed computerized embroidery machines from SWF. They are the Lexus of embroidery machines, precise, high speed, and very dependable. They cost about the same as a car as well, $42,000 – $120,000 each. We own ten of them, and we see the machine repairman once per year for a tune-up.

An average price for a 1 color print with a 1 color back print is $8.95 each on a 100% cotton t-shirt with a minimum order of 48 shirts. We can deliver your order as much as we can. We are one of the fast t shirt printing company in San Diego.
There are initial setup fees with t-shirt printing, typically $40 per color. The costs that go into custom shirt printing include the initial setup fees, the cost of the shirt and the cost to print each shirt. I just got off the phone with a client who wants to order 48 t shirts, he has a small left chest print and a full back print. He wants white print on navy blue t shirts with no pocket. the setup fee is $40. the t shirt cost is $4.95 each. the print cost is $5.00 to print front and back of the shirts. so the cost is $9.95/shirt with a $40 initial setup fee for the entire order.
We use direct silkscreen machines; the print is more durable than a digital garment print machine. Direct silkscreen machines are the most common type of printing machine. Some are manual machines; others are automated and have more consistent prints. We love the automation and consistency of print. Our Machines can print 6-12 color designs (we have one that can print 16 colors); the Brand is M&R and is the best printer in the industry. We love this machine because we print nearly 100,000 shirts/year on each machine and consistent quality and durability are most important. This machine costs from $65,000 – $120,000 and typically lasts like a car, about ten years. After ten years, we usually trade the machines in for a newer, faster model. According to our surveys, most start-up businesses purchase a digital t-shirt printing machine on a budget of between $10,000 and $30,000. That range is particularly attractive for financing companies because it can bring payments between about $250 and $600/ month, depending. The only problem is that the digital garments printers produce a less crisp and durable print.
Good custom t-shirt design is based on three things – how big the design is, what sort of colors are used, and also the printing method employed. Screen printing allows for the highest level of color definition.
Simply put, very good prices and professionals. They did the custom printing for my team jerseys and our shooting shirts. The turn around time was incredibly fast. I will take all of my custom printing to these people.
